How do you prepare from the first meal? Of course, if you are about to start weaning, this is one of the curiosities you want to satisfy.
Although your doctor will certainly give you all the information you need, here are other useful tips that will be valuable to you at this delicate time in your child’s life.
What foods make up the first meal?
The first meal is usually composed of the following foods:
- Vegetable stock;
- Two/three tablespoons of rice cream or other gluten-free cereal;
- Freeze-dried or homogenised lean white meat (chicken, turkey, lamb or rabbit);
- One teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil;
- One teaspoon of Parmesan cheese (optional);
- At the end of the meal, if the child is still hungry, you can give homogenized fruit or grated fruit (apple, pear).
Keep in mind that, as far as the choice of meat is concerned, you must prefer white meats with a low fat content; cereals, on the other hand, must be gluten-free, an allergenic substance that can only be introduced at a later date.
Homogenized food can be either of industrial productions or prepared by you, as long as you do not add salt and fat during cooking. The homogenization process not only reduces the food to a paste, but also makes it more easily digestible.
Do not introduce salt, sugar and other additives such as spices, at least until the child has passed the year. Let’s now see how the vegetable broth is prepared for the first meal.
Preparation of vegetable broth
Needed for the preparation of vegetable broth:
One litre of water;
Put everything in a large pot and boil over low heat for a couple of hours or more.
The broth should be poured, also collecting the water that comes out of the vegetables, very rich in vitamins and minerals. For proper storage, place it in the refrigerator in a tightly closed container for up to 2 days. If you can prepare it fresh, you can also use doses of broth placed in the freezer in individual packs.
After about ten days, if the child has become accustomed to the new flavours and consistency of the food, the vegetables can be blended and served in the food with the rest of the food.
Vegetables can be changed after 4-5 days, being careful to detect any intolerances that occur immediately in the form of skin rashes.
